Monika brings a diverse academic background to Planning, having first completed a Bachelor’s of Science studying Environmental Biology and Forestry prior to completing a Master’s degree from the School of Planning at the University of Waterloo. Her initial interest in planning was focused on public open space in urban environments and how it can be managed to contribute to a vibrant public realm. Subsequently her interests broadened to include issues of housing supply, transit-supportive development, and infill development.

Monika brings several years of experience working in the public sector side of planning at the provincial and municipal level. Through working at the Ontario Growth Secretariat, she gained valuable insight into the objectives and implementation of the Growth Plan for the Greater Golden Horseshoe. Later, she gained experience in municipal governance and reviewed and commented on development applications for residential, commercial, industrial, and institutional developments. This has given her an applied understanding of the development process and the wide range of stakeholders required to ensure that new developments make positive contributions to the communities they locate in.

In her free time Monika loves to explore Toronto's many neighbourhoods either by bike or on foot to experience nature, whether that's in one of the City's many ravines or along the waterfront.
